STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG We're going to Fish Creek. TERRANCE STRASSBURG Fish Creek? TERRANCE STRASSBURG All right. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Fish Creek, we'll hit the slough and try to make it to Fish Creek lake. TERRANCE STRASSBURG All right. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Should be some ocean ducks in there, black ducks, STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Aahaages. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Once we get into the slough heading to the lake you know, it's a very small slough, it's a little wider then maybe two of our boats put side to side. Going through there there's usually a lot of beaver dams that were gonna have to jump. Not even totally sure if we're gonna make it to the lake or not. The slough is right here. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Let's go. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG See a beaver, leading us up. All right, guys. There's a beaver dam right here. That one wasn't bad. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Well, my boy, keep your eyes peeled. TERRANCE STRASSBURG This one's a pretty big one. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG All right, hang on. All right, boys. Go ahead and jump in the front. TERRANCE STRASSBURG Stand in the front? STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Yup. Whoa. It's looking good boys. Whoo! Next stop the lake boys. Whoo. ETHAN Yeah, that was fun. Typical fun. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Well, let's just hope the ducks are here. Well find out. MARVIN AGNOT Beautiful day, isn't it? JUSTIN PHILLIPS Yup. MARVIN AGNOT Justin's got a nice cruiser plan. MARVIN AGNOT We are going to the secret honey hole. Ready to go fishing Bigger Boy?! ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS Yeah! MARVIN AGNOT Today Justin and his son Bigger Boy and I are gonna go Halibut fishing. MARVIN AGNOT And I am very excited. Are you already Bigger Boy? ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS Yeah. MARVIN AGNOT If we catch one, we're gonna make some Tamuuq. MARVIN AGNOT Which is dried fish from a couple days of wind and sun. It's pretty tasty. See that I need help too. Help me. JUSTIN PHILLIPS So, you want me to pass you? Well, after today there's little showers. It says we got at least three dry days of weather coming so that should be enough time to. MARVIN AGNOT Make tamuuq? JUSTIN PHILLIPS Yeah, dry the halibut. This looks like the perfect spot right here. MARVIN AGNOT Are you ready? ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS Are you? MARVIN AGNOT Uh hmm. About to watch you pull up a big halibut, is it gonna pull you overboard? ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS You? MARVIN AGNOT Not me? I'm strong. Are you strong? ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS Uh hmm. MARVIN AGNOT You can pull it then? ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS Yeah. MARVIN AGNOT Aww, cool. To watch Bigger Boy is the world to me. He's so excited and to be that young to being able to go out and do this stuff is very important. ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS Drop it? MARVIN AGNOT Yup. JUSTIN PHILLIPS I was just like Isaac when I was young going out fishing loving to do everything. It's important to keep Isaac out with me get him all learned up young. So, by the time he's my age hopefully he knows just as much if not more. MARVIN AGNOT Hope you get one there, Bigger Boy. Got a bite? There it is, it's coming up now. ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS What is it? MARVIN AGNOT Well, you got a cod there, Bigger Boy. Yeah, look at how big it is. JUSTIN PHILLIPS You got him in the gills. ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS My arms are sore. MARVIN AGNOT We're gonna have some good dinner there, nice big cod. Maybe we'll get a big Halibut now. DANIEL APASSINGOK Haa. Taawa. DANIEL APASSINGOK Aatakqun. NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK Yeah. DANIEL APASSINGOK Hey, we're off. NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK My home! NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK My dad and I going seal hunting and I'm gonna be the front man for the first time. Aay! Is that a bird or a seal? DANIEL APASSINGOK Bird. NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK It's a good sign though. Pretty excited, and scared, little nervous. Not bobbing up as much as last year. DANIEL APASSINGOK It's real nice over there! NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK My dad's dad passed away a few months ago. He used to call me Yellow. It's still kinda weird that he's gone. He was one of my favorite people. It's tough for all of us. But I still have a piece of my grandpa with us. DANIEL APASSINGOK Lot of birds. NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK Gray whales. Pretty. DANIEL APASSINGOK There's Minkes and gray whales around there should be seals somewhere. NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK Over there, dad? DANIEL APASSINGOK Gonna pop up somewhere. JOEL JACKO So, this is all my lumber I'm gonna try and to take up the river. To the cabin and I'm gonna replace the roof I realized the tins not really any good. And so, I kinda put a plywood roof on, something that can last a long time and just be super waterproof. And then, put a door on it and it'll get you know somewhat sealed up. So, hopefully I can stay I there. JOEL JACKO So, last summer I went up to fix my dad's old cabin and I kinda realized it was past the point of no return so I started to build another one. The main reason I built the cabin up the river was so I can go like hunting up there in the wintertime and in the fall time. It's so far away from the house so it's nice to have somewhere to kind of retreat too. I've been excited to kinda keep the tradition kinda going. I haven't been up to the cabin since winter so I'm hoping it looks the same as I left it. So, I got all my camping gear and I got hopefully all the tools and hardware I need. So, I'm hoping to only spend one night up there maybe two but its supposed to start raining. So, I kinda wanna get this done as quickly as possible. Across the lake is going pretty good so far but, you know, that next challenge is basically going up the river. Ive had lots of problems in the past, and I've flipped boats over in this river it's not really my favorite, uh, favorite river to go up I actually, quite dislike it most of the time. So far, it's looking pretty good. There's just a couple shallow spots up farther that those are the ones I'm worried about. That sometimes you can't get over, so I'll get up a little farther and see what it looks like. Damn it! [COMMERCIAL BREAK] JOEL JACKO I think I'm making it worse. This is always the worst spot right here. It spreads out too much and the river gets all shallow. If I didn't have all the weight, it would've went right over the shallow spot and then you get like ten feet forward and I think it'll kinda get going. I can't make it. I might have to drop some of this on the beach or something. Dirty mother. So, I just got stuck right there. It is like a little bit of a canal I thought I could make it through, but I think that's the only bad spot like that. I think I'm in the clear all the way to the cabin now. It's always an adventure on the river. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Go ahead. Oh! Good shot, boys. Keep practicing. EVAN STRASSBURG Today me and my dad and my brother are looking for any type of duck for hunting. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG You know in the springtime when we're going out with snow machine and what not you know we sit there and we wait for the birds to come to us we try to call them to us and use decoys and what not but these types of ducks they like to sit way out in the open water they don't usually fly over the bank very much it's, you know, kinda hard to sit there and wait for them, so we gotta idle up to them with our boat. EVAN STRASSBURG There's two of them, I think. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Straight ahead? Oh, yeah. I see two of them. TERRANCE STRASSBURG Right in front of us. Up down. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Dead ahead. Straight forward. TERRANCE STRASSBURG Right ahead. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG (bleep). Go ahead. Go ahead. CHILDREN Whoa. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Be ready, boys. These black ducks might come around this island. Fish Creek Lake is a good place for the ocean ducks that this time of the year. Regular ducks are pretty skinny. The only ones with some good fat on it are the ocean ducks. I see this black duck straight. Little bit to the right. See them? TERRANCE STRASSBURG Oh, yeah. Yeah. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Try and get them cornered in there. Be ready. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Go ahead! Oh no, they turned out. Yeah. Holy (bleep)! STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Let's get off the lake. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG That was like two seconds, man. Let's get up the bank boys. We gotta get out of the rain. Oh, come on boys. Oh. Let's stay over there. Ugh. All right. Phew that was rough. Just shows you how fast the weather can change in this lake. We'll, we'll just wait it out give it a few minutes and once it dies out, we'll head back out give it another lap. EVAN STRASSBURG Yup. DANIEL APASSINGOK Try to look for birds feeding huh. NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK Okay. DANIEL APASSINGOK I went out boating with my dad when I was younger in my teens. DANIEL APASSINGOK I did a lot of hunting out, out and about with him. DANIEL APASSINGOK A lot of good memories and knowledge and teaching that he gave us. I guess it's our turn to pass that down to our children. What, right there. Right there! Twenty two! Seal! NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK Ugh! What the, where's my clip? DANIEL APASSINGOK I don't know. NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK Here. Where'd it go? Oh! DANIEL APASSINGOK Ah there it is! Oh, a little bit low. DANIEL APASSINGOK Right! [COMMERCIAL BREAK] DANIEL APASSINGOK Aye almost! That was really close. You might even tire it out. Might stay up more. NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK How far was I? DANIEL APASSINGOK Just a little bit. [inaudible] NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK I'm not a master sniper. Shooting at a seal in the water while moving around in a boat and the seals moving it's like shooting at the size of your fist, it's pretty hard. Are we in the Bermuda Triangle? It got foggy. DANIEL APASSINGOK I'm lost. Ah, Nalu! Nalu! Right there. Right besides us. NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK Is that it? DANIEL APASSINGOK Yeah, shoot. NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK I can't see. DANIEL APASSINGOK Last chance Panik. NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK Foggy. DANIEL APASSINGOK Gonna be in the fog. Man had to be foggy the last minute. NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK I was a little disappointed when I missed the seal. But there's always another day like my dad says. DANIEL APASSINGOK [speaking Akuzipik language] Seghileghhalek iwernga liituten. DANIEL APASSINGOK Can't give up. Always gotta try. That's how everybody learns. NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK Probably lots of seals over that way. You wanna go check it out? JOEL JACKO Coming up on the cabin right now! JOEL JACKO See what I have to deal with. JOEL JACKO Oh yeah, just how I left it. Big old gap in the roof. Doesn't take much water to ruin stuff. Time to put an actual roof on there that's gonna last the cabins life. I think I'm going to have to replace the old rafters that I reused from my dad's house. With two by sixes, so I can have you know a flat surface for the plywood to go under. Guess I'll unload my junk and get to work. I'm a little bit of a minimalist I guess you could say. Also didn't wanna like get a generator and batteries and sort of other stuff up here. I don't need a whole lot, I mean, I built most of that with just a chain saw and an axe. I brought kind of the minimal amount of tools for this and we'll see how it goes but I do like a good challenge. Probably start by just ripping that tin off. Roofing in the rain that's the best time to do roofing. My short term goal for the cabin is really just get it sealed up. You know, the ultimate goal is to get the whole thing like full ceiling insulated and, you know, get the wood stove and everything else in there. And make it super comfortable basically so I can go, you know, moose hunting. And just hang out sometimes, sometimes you wanna go hang out on the river. And that was that. Getting these off is gonna be a little bit of a challenge cause I got big old spikes holding them in there. So, I don't know if I can bust them out of there without actually messing up the wall. I guess I'll cross that bridge when it comes to it. Looks bigger with no roof on it for some reason. MARVIN AGNOT Oh. I thought he had a nibble. ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS The Halibut pulls super hard. MARVIN AGNOT You gotta hold it good you might get one really big hard one. MARVIN AGNOT You gotta be ready. It'll just pull your rod right overboard. MARVIN AGNOT Then you got no more rod. JUSTIN PHILLIPS With no rain in the forecast so it's a perfect time to try and catch a halibut and hang it to dry. You feel anything? ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS Nuh oh not yet. MARVIN AGNOT As a kid when I was growing up doing this halibut fishing there, we never had fishing pulls we couldn't afford them. I used, um, hanging twine. We just could buy spool a lot a line and just had line over the side. ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS Uh oh. MARVIN AGNOT Got it? There is one on here guys we got something here. [COMMERCIAL BREAK] MARVIN AGNOT Is it pretty heavy? Is it fighting? ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS Yeah. MARVIN AGNOT Yeah? ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS My arms are getting tired. You see it? MARVIN AGNOT You got the halibut Bigger Boy! ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS Ah. MARVIN AGNOT You got just right one. MARVIN AGNOT Just right to make Tamuuq. ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS Woo! MARVIN AGNOT Woo! JUSTIN PHILLIPS Good job Bigger Boy. MARVIN AGNOT There you go! JUSTIN PHILLIPS Isaac is a pretty tough boy. It is a little struggle for him, but he's been fishing with the rods, getting a lot of practice in and he's doing pretty good. MARVIN AGNOT Good job Bigger Boy! JUSTIN PHILLIPS I see he really enjoys it and I'm proud of him. MARVIN AGNOT You did a good job Bigger Boy, now we got halibut to make tamuuq. You're a very good provider. Have a little extra time and see if we can catch another halibut to add to the collection. JUSTIN PHILLIPS Yup. MARVIN AGNOT Are you ready Bigger Boy? ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS Yeah. MARVIN AGNOT Did you have fun? ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS Uh huh. Yeah. MARVIN AGNOT Yeah, we're gonna do it again. DANIEL APASSINGOK Gotta be more. NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK Are we near Esneghak? DANIEL APASSINGOK Just over there. NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK There's probably more seals over there. DANIEL APASSINGOK Hey. NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK Woo! DANIEL APASSINGOK When the water gets rough, you know, try to get to land, and, uh, there's, uh, seal blinds on the coast. You can go sit and watch out for seals. NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK Bye! DANIEL APASSINGOK [speaking Akuzipik language] Aa enta bye. DANIEL APASSINGOK One of the hot spots we usually come sit by. Hopefully there will be a seal. Oh, some birds feeding out there. NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK Come on seals! My grandpa taught my dad how to hunt. Taught him all our traditional ways. Now my dad is teaching me. He's still with us in some ways. I miss that stubborn old man. Oh, the wind just picked up. He said, yellow shut up. Oh, oh, there's a seal. DANIEL APASSINGOK Nalu, down there, way down there you see? NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK I should have brought my binoculars. DANIEL APASSINGOK Man. NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK All right, I think we should start heading back, the wind has picked up a little bit. We don't want to go home in rough waters. It was a really good day. DANIEL APASSINGOK Yeah. You guys will be doing this more and more without me sometimes. NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK I'm glad I get to do it with you now. DANIEL APASSINGOK One for the memory books. JOEL JACKO Well, gonna see if I can't knock these cross braces off. JOEL JACKO I'm not sure if I can get, knock them off without messing up the wall cause those are tying both walls together. Once I start hammering on them, might mess everything up. Oh, that one is actually moving. Maybe this won't be as bad as I thought. I mean, the, the only thing that's holding this wall together is those spikes so, it gets a little on the, uh, flimsy side without them on there. Oh, wow, I don't know about that. Who built this? I might have to brace this to the floor. Gonna put a couple of forty fives just so the cabin doesn't tip over. That would be bad. Oh, yeah. A little wobbly in the middle. Feels a little bit wrong to be like taking it back apart. Feel like I was just up here building this thing and now I feel like definitely going backwards. It is to make it better in the long run. Oh, perfect. I got them all off, so now I can basically replace them with the two by sixes. Uh oh. It's too short. [COMMERCIAL BREAK] JOEL JACKO I shoulda' got twelve footers (3.6 meters). What did I get, ten footers (3 meters)? I got ten footers (3 meters). So my board is not long enough to span the gap. JOEL JACKO I only need rafters 8 feet (2.4 meters) long. And all the scraps I have left over, I'll sister them all together and make the main bridge pole. I have just enough boards to do the roof, so I can't really mess any of them up. There we go. So, I got my main support in, next start putting my joists in. Now I'm just making a platform for the plywood. But it has to be all like somewhat square and then these all need to be level. Which is why I have to notch these out. Good. I finally got all the, uh, my outside joists done. So now, I can just do the rest of the joists, and I can start throwing the plywood on. I had to pull off the old joist, 'cause they're round. Trying to put plywood like right on to that wouldn't work very well. And I got all this engineered wood just 'cause it's, you know, then you have a completely flat surface. It's smooth and it lets the water drain nicely. All right, that's it for the joists. Yeah, I'm pretty happy the uh, how it's coming out. These joists really making it pretty solid in here. Start grabbing plywood I guess and throwing it on there. Here we go. MARVIN AGNOT The tide's gonna start running out here pretty quick. JUSTIN PHILLIPS Yeah, I see the tide line right here. MARVIN AGNOT Oh yeah, looks a little shallow, but looks like a really good spot. JUSTIN PHILLIPS When I try and target halibut, I'll look for some really nice steep shelves that drop off the deep of this and try and drop my anchor right at the top. Seems like they like to feed off of food and stuff that roll down from the shallow right down to the deep, so they'll be sitting right in that type of area. ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS Beat you. JUSTIN PHILLIPS We'll see. ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS I'll beat ya. MARVIN AGNOT There it is Bigger Boy, daddy got it! JUSTIN PHILLIPS Just tell me when you see it. ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS See it. Tamuuq. MARVIN AGNOT There's the tamuuq Bigger Boy. MARVIN AGNOT Woo hoo! ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS That was wet. JUSTIN PHILLIPS Chicken halibut, perfect for pan frying. Tamuuq, whatever you could do anything with these. They're a perfect size. It's your turn. ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS I fish on your side? JUSTIN PHILLIPS Go ahead. MARVIN AGNOT Is that the lucky side over there or what? ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS Yup. MARVIN AGNOT Okay, get a big one now. Oh, I see it. Oh. Oh my God, I seen it. JUSTIN PHILLIPS Pull it really hard. MARVIN AGNOT Little halibut Bigger Boy, look at that! JUSTIN PHILLIPS Good job Bigger Boy. MARVIN AGNOT Very good Bigger Boy, it's just a small one. JUSTIN PHILLIPS It's a little one, we'll let him go, okay? It's important for me to be responsible and make sure Isaac knows not to over fish. There you go, say bye. MARVIN AGNOT There you go Bigger Boy, you did a good job. Buddy, I think it's time to head home, but we had a good day. We got a cod, two halibut. Did you have fun? ISAAC BIGGER BOY PHILLIPS Yeah. MARVIN AGNOT Now you can make tamuuq with your halibut. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG I think there's two black ducks over here boys. TERRANCE STRASSBURG Straight ahead dad? STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Dead ahead now. TERRANCE STRASSBURG Right when their wings open. TERRANCE STRASSBURG That's when we shoot. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Be ready boys. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Black ducks! Go ahead. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Almost. EVAN STRASSBURG I didn't have one in. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG You gotta learn how to be ready, Ev. Don't want to leave the lake till my boys have some success. So, we're just gonna keep going out and try. Keep doing laps around the lake. There's two between these two islands. TERRANCE STRASSBURG That's it. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Be ready boys. Go ahead. [COMMERCIAL BREAK] EVAN STRASSBURG I've seen one drop. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Good shot. TERRANCE STRASSBURG Thank you. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Boys, that's what they call floating moss right there. It look like you could stand on it but it's like quick sand, sink in it. Woo. Ah, look at this whole thing it shakes. EVAN STRASSBURG Oh, that's scary. TERRANCE STRASSBURG Dad, do you see anything? STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Not yet, I seen it go down though, it's around here. Hey, holy cow. All right, good shootin' boys. EVAN STRASSBURG I feel a little proud that I got the bird. TERRANCE STRASSBURG I was hoping I get to shoot a duck but at least he got to shoot one, he's younger than me so, he's getting better at shooting ducks and geese. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG All right, good shooting boys. EVAN STRASSBURG Thank you. TERRANCE STRASSBURG Thank you. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Man, those are pretty ducks, huh. Let's go back and find a spot and make a fire. Make some soup huh? Hungry. MARVIN AGNOT That's the one, is that Bigger Boys trophy? JUSTIN PHILLIPS Yeah. MARVIN AGNOT It's the right size, huh? JUSTIN PHILLIPS Yeah. MARVIN AGNOT Not too thick. JUSTIN PHILLIPS To make tamuuq, you just gotta cut thin slices. Depending on how much weather you got, if you only have a couple days then you definitely want to cut 'em a lot thinner. I like mine to get done in two days. MARVIN AGNOT It's the weather break we got that's out there right now, is a two day weather break. And they just sit out in the wind and in the sun and just dry out in mother nature. Perfect spot for this, huh? Oh, yeah. Get a lot of wind right through here, a lot of heat. JUSTIN PHILLIPS It makes me feel good that Isaac really enjoys doing all of this and as soon as he's ready to drive the skiff, I'm gonna be shipping him out and he'll be having his own fun before too long. Last one. MARVIN AGNOT All right there, buddy. That looks very deadly. JUSTIN PHILLIPS That's that. MARVIN AGNOT You know, just wait for that treat to be done. JUSTIN PHILLIPS Yup. MARVIN AGNOT Thanks to Bigger Boy, he did a good job. JOEL JACKO I'm ready to start throwing that plywood up there. I can see how much harder it would be, you know, back in the day without motors. 'Cause I had you know a chainsaw and a boat to get up there with it. And I couldn't image like my dad getting up there. He was up there with a dogsled and a hand saw and an axe probably. Right on. Really need a ladder. Uh hmm. One of my favorite things to do is to make something out of nothing and like that's part of the reason I wanted to build a log cabin is 'cause, you know, you're literally building a house just outta like the surrounding trees. There's a lot of satisfaction you know, making something outta nothing. Uh huh, there you go! All right that's it. It looks good. It's all square, flat, straight. It really made everything rigid too. Now I gotta put the roofing material on there. It's kinda like shingle on top. I'll have to come back when it's warmer, it's just too cold. Cold and wet right now. So, I really want to get this door in 'cause it's kinda the last thing to like seal it up. You know it keeps the elements out, the animals out. The animals was a big problem in the last cabin. Once I get the door in here, you could stay in here if you wanted. I mean, it'd be a little drafty, but you'd be out of the elements for the most part. I might end up staying in here tonight, see what the weather does. Pretty tired but, uh, I'm glad I got so much done. I do want to kinda preserve the land and good connection to the past and my ancestors. And I want future generations to have the same things I had. NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK Me and him, we're looking at this album before he passed away. Siberian family of four move to Gamble. DANIEL APASSINGOK We are trying to deal with the loss of our father, but you gotta take what life gives you. You know I'm gonna cherish every minute of it as much as I can. NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK Oh, look. DANIEL APASSINGOK Graduation. NALU DANIELLE APASSINGOK We're all a piece of him. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG It's a pretty black duck you boys got. Boy, sure is gonna taste good, you know? Ouch, oh. Every day the boys are getting bigger. This is the time in the life where we gotta start making our separation, going our own ways. Another year or two, I'm gonna throw you guys the boat keys and you guys will start bringing your buddies and your cousins back here, okay? EVAN STRASSBURG Okay. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Just continue to pass this on, you know? The one thing I do want my boys to do is go out there and experience the world. Experience something different. Do things that I've never done. Allakaket's never going nowhere. STEVEN TIG STRASSBURG Our family, our culture, our tradition, it's always gonna be here. It's never going nowhere. MARVIN AGNOT Hey, you got a little treat you got there, Bigger Boy. I gotta try one of these. JUSTIN PHILLIPS Want one? That's the one you caught. MARVIN AGNOT And these are, these the one you caught. And we'll take these in the skiff next time we go again, this will be our snack. Our village, this is home. To see the kids still practicing what I was growing up with gives me a lot of hope for the future. [SNAP IN] JOEL JACKO It'll be nice to get this kinda ready for anybody who might need shelter for the night or something. Have some plywood to keep warm. Not too bad. So, I found this tree, it's a standing dead spruce, could be used for firewood. It's not very big but it'll you know be a couple nights of, uh, firewood. Gonna knock it down, take it back to the cabin. You never know, you know, when you're gonna break down. Sucks when you show up somewhere and there's no wood. I'll get wood now while it's, uh, there's no snow on the ground, that's the plan. Ugh. All right. Got a nice little stash of wood. And call it a day. I think I might have a little fire on the beach. Take it easy.
