BRADFORD Are you a model? MELISSA That's not a very original line. BRADFORD It's not a line at all. BRADFORD I'm asking because I'm a photographer, and I'm pretty sure I recognize you from a shoot. BRADFORD Ok, here. Look. This girl here just got repped at Elite. I was supposed to meet her here, but she hasnt shown up yet. MELISSA I can see why they signed her. She's pretty. BRADFORD So are you. Full lips, brown eyes. BRADFORD You know, II have my camera in my car. If you want to do a quick test shoot. BRADFORD But if youre not interested. MELISSA Ok, yeah. Im in. Let me just tell my friend. BRADFORD Ok. MELISSA Ok! BRADFORD There you are. MELISSA Hi. BRADFORD Hey. My equipment's in the trunk. BRADFORD Hey, can you help me with this? It's not heavy. MELISSA Yeah. BRADFORD Thanks. BRADFORD Um, you can just plop it anywhere over there. MELISSA Ok. BRADFORD Ladies choice! BRADFORD Good job. Let's see. MELISSA Ok. Why don't you, uhwhy dont you give me a pose? BRADFORD Nice. Try something else. Loosen up. Give me, uh, give me something different. BRADFORD Good. This time, imagine we're on a date. BRADFORD You're looking across the table at me. BRADFORD So good. Ok. You know, I just remembered there's this really cool storefront just down the street. Why don't we go down there and we'll take a few shots in front of it? MELISSA Uh. My friends are probably annoyed by now. I should go back in. But um, maybe another time. BRADFORD Hey! BRADFORD You know, I should have these developed by Wednesday. Um, how should I get in contact with you? MELISSA I could give you my number. BRADFORD Sure. Okay. BRADFORD There, yeah. Write it down there. CARL The day your child is born, life suddenly makes sense. It's as if every decision you've ever made had been leading up to that moment. When you hold that baby in your arms for the first time, you realize your purpose. CARL And you don't think it's possible to love anything more than this innocent little person that you helped create. And you vow to do everything you can to keep them safe. CARL But sometimes, that just isn't possible. ALINA T-stance, half turn, over-the-shoulder, walk. CARL Hey! Here you go. ALINA Ah, sweet! CARL For nine whole months, your mother didn't drink or smoke just so you could have functional hearing. The least you could do is not go deaf before you turn sixteen. ALINA Wait, where's Vogue? It's not here. CARL I don't know. Patient must have taken it out of the waiting room. Why are you dressed like you're goin out? ALINA I'm meeting Nick at the mall. CARL Nick, Nick, Nick. He's the one with the combat boots, fake dog tags. ALINA Dad, It's his style. And no, Nick has a flop and wears board shorts. He's on the tennis team, remember? CARL Right, right, right. Ok, which movie was showing? ALINA Footloose, 6:45. And then I'll probably just hang out at the arcade afterward. CARL Ok, so pick you up at ten? ALINA No, Dad, that's so early! I'll page you when I'm done, eleven-ish. CARL Alina, you have a civics test tomorrow. ALINA I already studied! CARL The whole point of summer school is for you to get ahead so you could graduate early, Ok? You gotta take this seriously. ALINA Fine! Ten. CARL Ten! Be downstairs at one if you want a ride. CARL Ok, sweetie. You have a quarter in your pocket for the phone in case something happens to your purse? ALINA Mhm! CARL Keychain mace? ALINA Never leave home without it. CARL All right. And if somebody tries to drag you into a car a broom closet... ALINA Scratch his eyes, knee him in the groin. I'm gonna miss the beginning of the movie. CARL All right. I love you, kiddo. Be safe. ALINA I will. ALINA Thanks, Dad. CARL Bye! ALINA We should go. My dad's probably outside by now. NICK Okay. Let him wait. NICK Oh my God, youre so hot. ALINA Seriously. Nick! NICK Yeah, no, I guess... I guess the night's over. Yeah. ALINA Um, call me tomorrow? NICK Yeah! ANNOUNCEMENT Mid-term exams for summer courses begin the last week of July. Schedules will be posted outside the main office starting Monday. ANNOUNCEMENT For any conflicts, please discuss with your home room teacher. ALINA Check this out! My dad brought it home from work. It's this Saturday! We have to go. NATALIE It says it's for photographers. ALINA Read the last part. Models get in for free. We can have our headshots taken and maybe even win prizes. First place is five hundred bucks. NATALIE Hey, we could use these photos to get agents. ALINA I know, right? By next summer, instead of summer school, we could actually be in Paris. Can you even imagine. . . sharing an apartment that overlooks the Eiffel Tower? You and me, sipping champagne after we just finished walking the runway during Fashion Week. NATALIE Ok, wait. It says that this is open to amateurs. Do you think these guys are any good? ALINA I mean, they might suck or maybe they won't. It cost nothing, so what do we have to lose? NATALIE Oh, forget him... NATALIE Lets do it! ALINA Yes! Um, but don't tell anyone. It's in the Canyon and my parents will freak if they find out. NATALIE Yeah. Sealed. ALINA Bye, Mom! NANCY Oh, whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Wait. Honey. Where are you off to? ALINA Just meeting Natalie at the mall. NANCY With your backpack on? ALINA Uh, yeah. I'm gonna return a few books to the library on the way. NANCY Be back before dinner, Ok? ALINA I will. Love you! NANCY I love you too. JOHN Good, yeah. Guys, uh, be patient, Ok? I know it's a long line, but, uh, just give it some time, and we'll get there. Love that top. Good to see you again. Hi, how are ya? JOHN Hi. How are you? Good to see you. Mm! You look so good! Hi! Love your hair, by the way. JOHN Ok, we are moving. All right. Just give me one sec. JOHN Guys, SoCal Photographer doesn't employ photographers. We don't pay you; you pay us. Don't even ask to get in for free. Im not talking about you, Bill. JOHN Hey! Good to see ya. BRADFORD Hey, you too. JOHN Im gonna take care of you. Come here, come here. Sorry, you just wait there and... ALINA Excuse me. JOHN Hey. Yeah. ALINA Sorry. Um, its our first time here. And were just wondering where to go. JOHN Girls, welcome. I'm John. I run this event, sort of. ALINA Cool. I'm Alina, and this is Natalie. JOHN Very nice to meet you, Alina. It's pretty simple. See those chairs? Wait there till a photographer picks you, then he'll find a spot to take some pictures. Changing tent is over there. Swimsuits are okay, but no nudity. If anyone asks you to take off your top, tell me, and he's out. At the end of the day, they vote on which model should win prizes, and we'll feature you in the next issue. Sound good? ALINA Yeah! JOHN All right! ALINA Thanks. NATALIE Thank you. BRADFORD Hey. Can I get a few shots? NATALIE Me? BRADFORD Yeah. NATALIE Ok! BRADFORD Yeah? Um, how about we sit up over here? BRADFORD You are gonna love these. NATALIE Really? BRADFORD Yeah. How about we get a few with your friend and you together? NATALIE Yeah, yeah. Alina! Come here! He said he wants to do the both of us. ALINA One sec, sorry. BRADFORD There it is! Huh. BRADFORD Wait. So uh, which agencies are you guys hoping to get signed by? Ford? Elite? ALINA All of them! BRADFORD All of them? Yeah. Okay, all of them. Let em fight over you. BRADFORD All right, I see that. How about we do just a few with Alina this time? NATALIE Yeah. Yeah, yeah. BRADFORD Nice. BRADFORD Perfect. BRADFORD You see, you are truly stunning. Of all the girls here today, I think you have the best chance of getting repped. ALINA Really? BRADFORD Yeah. Yeah. BRADFORD Uh, do you have any other clothes you could change into, like something green? ALINA Uh, I didnt bring anything green. Um BRADFORD Ok, next time. Do you wanna take a few more? ALINA Yeah! Yes please. Sure! BRADFORD Yes please. So polite! CARL Oh hey, hon. Uh, where are your keys? I need to move your car. NANCY Oh, should be in my purse in the living room. NANCY Did you find them? CARL Hey, I thought the whole point of getting your tubes tied was so that... NANCY Those arent for me, honey! Dr. Benson gave me a sample pack. Theyre for Alina. CARL Nance! She's only fifteen! NANCY Honey, she has a boyfriend now. CARL Who? CARL Who? This Nick guy? No, no. I dont think theyre that serious. NANCY Come here. Look at all her little doodles. CARL Yeah. NANCY Alina loves Nick. Nick, Nick. I'm just saying I don't want her to ruin her future because some guy knocks her up. CARL Yeah, but let's not push her into bed with him before she's ready. NANCY Yeah, how do we know when she's ready? CARL She'll ask to get on the pill. NANCY You're kidding, right? CARL No, look. If, ifif we stress being transparent and we aren't judgmental, why wouldn't she talk to us about it? NANCY Baby, I don't know what kind of fantasy you're living in but that is not how 15-year-old girls operate. She will hide it from us. And the best thing you and I can do is give her tools so she can make really wise choices. CARL Well, having sex with your 15-year-old boyfriend is not a wise decision. NANCY And that's not judgmental at all, is it? CARL Well, you know what I mean. NANCY And by the way, he's not 15. He's 17. BRADFORD Hey, so listen, I just, uh, I need to get your address so I can send you your proofs. ALINA Um, can I give it to you next week maybe? My parents don't know I'm here and they think I can't, you know, model and graduate college at the same time. BRADFORD Oh, that's too bad cause I think you have a real shot at making this a career. ALINA So I'll see you, um, next week. BRADFORD Right. Okay. JOHN Well, take the light, its a great example. High light always flatters your face, right? So it brings you focus and it takes away from the body, see? Ok. But you do have to learn so with a different light. Ok. Take care. BRADFORD John! JOHN Hey. Whats up? BRADFORD Hey. I just need to get a models address -um, Alina? JOHN You know I don't do that. If a girl wants you to have it, she'll give it to you. BRADFORD Oh, yeah no. She gave it to me. I justI lost it. JOHN Uh-huh. Then be more organized next time, hm? NATALIE Come on, were gonna be late for the bus. ALINA I think we're gonna get some really good pics today, don't you? NATALIE Yeah, you will maybe. ALINA Are you pissed or something? NATALIE It just sucks that you have to be seven feet tall for them to notice you. NANCY Thompson Residence. JOHN May I speak with Alina, please? NANCY She's at the mall right now. I can take a message. JOHN This is John from SoCal Photographer Magazine. Tell Alina she won first place at Saturday's New Faces event. NANCY Did she? NICK Hey, gorgeous. ALINA Hey. NICK Close your eyes. ALINA Oh. NICK And everyone will know you have a boyfriend now. ALINA So I'm officially your girlfriend? I kinda thought you were pissed at me after the movie. NICK No, you were right. That was, uh, poor timing. I just cannot keep my hands off you. But I gotta go to work. ALINA Ok. NICK I'll see you at school later? ALINA Uh, yeah. Bye. ALINA Oh hi! NATALIE Hey! ALINA Look what Nick just gave me. NATALIE Mm. From the quarter machine by the front entrance. How romantic. ALINA Natalie, its the thought that counts. NATALIE What thought? Hes a tool. I just dont think you should be taking him that seriously. He flirts with other girls, you know. ALINA Has he with you? NATALIE No. He hasn't tried it, butooh yeah! You should get that. ALINA Cute right? ALINA These are perfect. ALINA Thanks. CLERK Thatll be twelve dollars even. NATALIE Ooh, whatwhat is a trunk show anyways? ALINA Uh, it's when a store invites their best customers to come show off a new line from a designer. ALINA No agents or anything, but it could be good to say that we've done one. When is it? NATALIE July 13th. ALINA Lets do it. NATALIE Awesome. Ill sign us up. ALINA Yeah, Ok. ALINA Hey, look...is she crying? You know her? NATALIE I dont think so. ALINA You know what? Go ahead. I'll, uh, meet you in a sec. ALINA Hey. You Ok? I don't believe you. ALINA Why were you crying? And don't tell me you werent, I can see it in your eyes. TRACY I justI hate it here. I miss my friends back home. ALINA Wheres home? TRACY Missoula. Thats in Montana. ALINA I do know where Missoula is. Where are you now? Westside? TRACY Yeah. Palms area. ALINA Nice! Ok, not too far. What are you listening to? ALINA Ok! You like cool music. ALINA Have you ever written any songs? TRACY Um, I write lyrics sometimes. ALINA Me too. We should write a song together. TRACY Yeah! Sure, Id be down. ALINA Cool! Let me get your number. TRACY Oh, we dont have a phone yet. ALINA Thats Ok! Um, I have a photoshoot thing tomorrow. But we could meet here on Sunday? One oclock? TRACY Yeah! Ok! ALINA Great. Im about to get taquitos with my friend if you wanna join? TRACY You know what, Im not that hungry and I have no idea what a taquito is. ALINA You have so much to learn, Montana! Oh my gosh. Well, if you change your mind, well be at the food court. Ok? Im Alina. TRACY Thanks. Tracy! ALINA And dont admit to anyone else that you dont know what a taquito is! Its super embarrassing. BRADFORD When are you gonna let me make you a top model? SHARI Not this again. BRADFORD What? I Mean, You're Tall, You're Thin, Perfect For Both Runway And Print. Just Saying. What have you got to lose? SHARI Money, Bill. Money. I'm too busy working to waste time on something that has less than one percent chance of actually panning out. BRADFORD One test shoot isn't gonna kill you. BRADFORD Okay. I got it. I figured you out. You've given up. You've resigned yourself to being a bartender for the rest of your life. SHARI I have not! BRADFORD You think you don't deserve something good to happen to you. SHARI What are you? Psychologist now? BRADFORD Shari, you're beautiful. The girls I photograph don't have half of what you do. And they land six-figure modeling contracts. BRADFORD Don't waste your youth here. BRADFORD All I'm saying is think about it. Ok? Sometimes, opportunities only knock once. SHARI Bill. SHARI Let's do it. If it doesn't amount to anything, at least I tried. BRADFORD Exactly. SHARI Yeah. BRADFORD How about Saturday afternoon? SHARI Do you mind if we meet here? I'm kind of bouncing around right now, staying with friends and stuff. BRADFORD Sure. Pick you up at noon? SHARI Ok. BRADFORD Bring something yellow. It's a good color on you. SHARI See you at twelve. NANCY Oh Alina, I almost forgot to tell you. Somebody named John called today for you. CARL Was it someone you know from summer school? ALINA Uh, yeah. NANCY Hm! CARL So does that mean Nicks out of the picture? ALINA No, why? CARL No reason, you just NANCY I think you're confusing this with a different John. This one coordinates a modeling contest for SoCal Photographer Magazine. Apparently, our daughter won first place last Saturday. NANCY Five hundred dollars. All the photographers voted you the best new face. CARL Wait, modeling contest? I thought you were at the mall with Natalie. NANCY Well, evidently, she was in Topanga Canyon CARL Howhow the hell did you get out there? ALINA Natalie and I rode our bikes to the library and then took a bus. CARL The city bus? Do you have any idea how dangerous that is? ALINA Well, I wasn't alone. Besides, it didn't seem that bad. CARL Well, it's way too far, but more to the point, you lied about where you were going. ALINA Because I knew you'd never let me go to a photoshoot all by myself. But this proves it. One of the photographers there gets a ton of girls signed and he said I have a better shot than any other girl there. CARL All this proves, Alina, is that we can't trust what you say. ALINA It's not like I lie all the time. CARL Well, I mean, how are we supposed to know? ALINA Can't you just be happy for me? I won five hundred bucks! CARL Which you will not collect! ALINA Are you kidding me? That is so unfair. It's my money. CARL Well, maybe you'll think twice next time you decide to make up a story. ALINA I hate you. I hate you both. NANCY Alina. CARL Why didn't you tell me? NANCY No, no, no. Do not blame me for this. You're just upset because she betrayed your trust. As you should be. RAJAT Already? You're busy, Mr. Bradford? BRADFORD Yeah. A few new girls. Wait till you see this one in particular. Do you want me to fill one of these out? BRADFORD Ah, don't worry about it. I got it. Thanks. RAJAT All right. There you go! RAJAT Beautiful for sure. BRADFORD Yeah. BRADFORD Shes perfect. JOURNALIST Behind me is Copleys Bar where the 24-year-old medical assistant was last seen. JOURNALIST Her friends say she went out to the parking lot with a man she met that night and never returned. Melissa is described as 56 with blonde hair, brown eyes and a slim build. NANCY Alina? JOURNALIST At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing blue jeans, a pink shirt and... NANCY Your father got you some fireworks. Why don't you get up, go outside, and enjoy the 4th? ALINA I'm not in the mood to celebrate freedom when I have none. NANCY Oh Alina, stop it. ALINA What? You never let me do anything. Alicia can move to Japan all by herself, but God forbid I go twelve miles to get a few headshots taken. NANCY Well, your sister's almost two years older than you are. ALINA Ok so 2700 miles for each year that she's older means that by the end of this month, I get to move to Santa Barbara all by myself. NANCY Ok, are you done? Will you stop? I actually came down to tell you that your father and I are gonna let you go to the next New Faces event. ALINA Seriously? NANCY Yeah. But under two conditions. You and I decide right now that you are graduating high school and you will be going to college. ALINA No brainer. What else? NANCY If you go to one of these photo day things, you're gonna take one of us with you. ALINA What? I'm gonna be the girl who has to have her mommy and daddy there? NANCY I don't care what you tell them. Tell them it's your bodyguard. But one of us will be going. Do you hear me? ALINA All right. So does that mean I can keep the five hundred I already won? NANCY Your dad said half. The other half goes into your college fund. ALINA Yes! Thanks, Mom! NANCY I love you. I love you so much. And Im very, very proud of you. Now come on! Lets go set off some fireworks. BRADFORD Nice. Ok. Just turn a little that way. That's great. That's great. Perfect. Just look a little left now. There you go. Nice. Nice. BRADFORD Let's do another roll. SHARI Ok. BRADFORD Ok? Why dont you put on that yellow shirt that we started with. Put that one back on. BRADFORD Oops. Sorry about that. SHARI So back up on the rock? BRADFORD No. No, let's, um...lets do something a little different. Um . . . how about you lie down right here? SHARI Just right here? BRADFORD Yeah. Arch your back. BRADFORD Just open your mouth a little. BRADFORD Just, uh... SHARI You know, my boyfriend's really excited I'm doing the shoot, you know? He knows all about you. You know, I told him how I met you at the bar, that youre a photographer and... BRADFORD Yeah? Whywhy dont we, uhwhy dont we take some private photos for him. You know, as a gift. SHARI No, he wouldn't be into that. BRADFORD You don't really have a boyfriend do you, Shari? SHARI Yes, I do. BRADFORD You wouldn't be sleeping on other people's couches if you did. SHARI Take me back to the bar. BRADFORD If you do what I say, I'll take you back when we're done. BRADFORD Turn around. BRADFORD Give me your arm. SHARI SHARI NATALIE Thank you so much for the ride. CARL Of course! ALINA Uh, why do you have your camera bag with you? CARL Oh, well your mom said you were embarrassed to have me go with you so today, Im not Dad. Im Carl, the wedding photographer. ALINA You're awesome. JOHN Alina! Did your mom tell you the good news? ALINA She did. JOHN Before you leave today, remind me to give you your check. ALINA I will. Thanks. NATALIE Check? Did you win the contest from last week or something? ALINA Yeah. Yeah. Best New Faces. NATALIE Why didn't you tell me? ALINA Alina. NATALIE Natalie. ALINA I thought I did. I'm sorry. I just didn't wanna make a big deal out of it. NATALIE It's fine. I could tell that those guys liked you better anyways. NATALIE Well, no. Who cares what they think? They're all amateurs anyway, you know? ALINA Yeah. I have a different approach this time, so we'll see. BRADFORD Alina. Hey. ALINA Hi! BRADFORD I have some proofs. I actually faxed some to a new agency out in New York, and they want to see more. ALINA That is so amazing. I also brought a green shirt, like you said. BRADFORD Good job. BRADFORD How about I meet you outside? ALINA Perfect. BRADFORD Ok. BRADFORD Nice. Oh yeah, thats great, Alina. Green is a really great colour for you. Ok, look left? JOHN We uh, haven't met yet. John. I'm with the magazine. CARL Oh, hey. Carl. This is athis is a great event. It's a wonderful opportunity for the models and for us. JOHN I try. BRADFORD Beautiful. That's it exactly. Hey, you know what? Why dont you, uhwhy dont you change your clothes and Ill scope out a different background? ALINA Sure. JOHN And my brother-in-laws been asking me if I have any idea who the photographer could be since I know so many. CARL Yeah. JOHN She works at, uhat the Meet Market, I think it's called? You haven't heard about this? CARL Uh... BRADFORD Heard about what? CARL Well, John was just saying that, uh a bartender in Santa Monica went missing a couple of days ago. And apparently, she told her friend she was meeting up with a photographer and never came back. BRADFORD Wait, you know, think I saw something about that on the news. It was a dark-haired girl, right? JOHN My brother-in-laws been working the missing persons case, so if you hear anything, let me know. I like to see him solve it and be the hero, you know? BRADFORD He say anything else? JOHN Hm? BRADFORD You know, about the case. Sometimes they keep stuff from the public. JOHN Nothing. Just that they don't have any good leads yet. BRADFORD Hm. JOHN Who knows if she's even missing at all? Maybe she had a few too many shots on the 4th and she's just sleeping it off somewhere. You know how those girls are. They'll go home with anyone who tips well. Which is why I tip twenty percent! ALINA Where to now? JOHN Oh, I found a great spot. ALINA Have you shot any other models that became famous? JOHN Oh, yes. Several. I shot Gia Carangi before she blew up. ALINA What? I love her! JOHN Yeah. She's amazing. ALINA Oh my God. Sorry. One sec. Hey, Natalie! Can Ican I talk to you for a second? ALINA You dont want pictures like this! Just trust me. NATALIE Stop! Let me do my thing! CARL Hey, hey! Just go on ahead to the car, Ok? I'll, I'llI'll wait for Natalie. ALINA Fine. BRADFORD Hello there. TRACY Hi. Um, I'm Tracy, just from next door. BRADFORD Yeah. Um, I think you met my mom before. BRADFORD Oh, yeah. Jane. TRACY Yeah. BRADFORD Nice lady. TRACY Yeah, I, um, saw you drop this on your way in. BRADFORD Thank you. TRACY Yeah. BRADFORD I'd be in serious trouble if I lost that. TRACY She's pretty, that girl. BRADFORD She's a model I was hired to photograph for an upcoming issue of a magazine. TRACY Which magazine? BRADFORD Mmm, I'm not supposed to say. BRADFORD Ok. California Choppers. TRACY Wait, really? BRADFORD Mhm. TRACY Oh, that's so cool! Yeah! I know that mag. Um, my dad, um, he has a motorcycle. BRADFORD Oh. TRACY Not here. He lives in Montana. TRACEY See ya around. BRADFORD Tracy? BRADFORD You look familiar. Were you in an Anchor Blue spread for Teen Beat? TRACY Me? No, that wasn't me. BRADFORD Well, you are a model, right? I mean, thats why you moved out here? TRACY Uh, no, I wish. But, um, we actually moved here because my mom... BRADFORD You should be. BRADFORD You've got a great facial structure. BRADFORD And I'm always being asked to find petite models. How tall are you? TRACY Five two. BRADFORD Perfect height. BRADFORD You know if you ever wanna do a test shoot just to see if we can get some interest, I'd be happy to do it. TRACY Interest from where? BRADFORD Oh, The Rave, Miller's Outpost, Petite Sophisticate. TRACY Oh, you mean that store in the mall? BRADFORD Yeah. I'll be, uh, Ill be shooting their winter ads next month. And I think theyd dig your look. Every time I talk to them, they say, Bill, bring me a cute blonde. TRACY There's lots of blondes in the city. BRADFORD None quite like you. BRADFORD You've got a different look. Natural. Soft. BRADFORD Let's do it. Why not? Right? Grab a few changes of clothes and well see if we can get some shots off before we lose the light. BRADFORD If you're not interested, thats... TRACY Oh, no. No, no, II am! I am interested. It's just, I have to call my mom at work and see if it's Ok, and her phone isn't hooked up yet. Do you think I could use yours? BRADFORD Of course. Come in. TRACY Thank you! BRADFORD The uh, the phone's right there. Don't mind the mess. TRACY There's no dial tone. BRADFORD Oh, yeah, just hit the hook switch a few times. TRACY Nothing. BRADFORD I gotta replace the stupid cord. Um, listen, I'll tell you what. Why don't we stop at the gas station and you can use the payphone while I fuel up? TRACY Ok. Yeah! BRADFORD Ok. Here. You go ahead. I just gotta grab a few things and I'll be right out. TRACY Ok. BRADFORD Ok? TRACY Yeah. ALINA So you just take one pill a day and thats it? Is this why Dad was asking me so much about Nick? ALINA A pill a day keeps the babies away. NANCY Well, more importantly, it keeps you in control. ALINA I couldn't model if I was pregnant, so thanks for this. NANCY You got it. How was it being with your dad at the New Faces event? ALINA Not terrible. I modeled for him to help his disguise. NANCY Hes so happy to be there! ALINA At least he's trying to be supportive. He's even taking me to the bank tomorrow to help me cash my check. NANCY Oh. ALINA Yeah. NANCY Sounds like a shopping spree's coming on. ALINA Actually, no. I'm meeting Nick in the morning, and then I'm meeting this new girl I met at the mall. Her name's Tracy. She lives in Palms. NANCY Oh, you normally spend Sundays with Natalie. ALINA Uh, yeah. I know. NANCY Your dad said that she got a lot of attention in that bathing suit. ALINA Mom, she totally embarrassed herself. ALINA And she's been acting so weird lately. I have no clue what's going on with her. NANCY I'm sure you two will work it out though. Why don't you invite Tracy over? I wanna meet your new friend. ALINA I will. JANE Bill? Bill, are you in there? It's Jane from next door. JANE Bill, have you seen my daughter today? BRADFORD Tracy? JANE Yeah. BRADFORD Uh, earlier this afternoon. JANE What time? BRADFORD Around two. She came over and asked to use the phone. Said yours wasn't hooked up yet. JANE Ok well, who did she call? BRADFORD Nobody. My phone's broken. She wanted me to drop her off at the mall. So I did. JANE Ok. Well, why would she go to the mall? Sheshe doesn't even have any money. What? Was she meeting someone there? Or what did she say? BRADFORD Nothing. JANE Ok. She didn't say anything to you the entire time on the way to the mall in the car? Nothing? CARL What are you gonna spend all that on? ALINA I don't know yet. I've never had all this money all at once. Uh, Prince's album comes out at the end of the month, so I'll definitely get that. And then maybe buy a little gift for Nick. CARL Nick. You really like this kid, uh? ALINA Yeah. I guess so. CARL I'm gonna give you some advice, Ok? Don't ever let anyone, not Nick, not one of these photographers, ever make you feel bad about saying no. Ok? Listen to me, No is a complete sentence. It doesn't require anything more. And if they try to get you to list the reasons why, it's just because they want to talk you out of them. You understand? ALINA Yeah. I get it, Dad. Really, I get it. CARL Ok. ALINA Do you like this bracelet? NICK I love it. ALINA Then its yours. NICK Ok, moneybags. Ok. ALINA Thanks. Okay, pass me your wrist. This is only the beginning. One of the photographers said an agency out of New York was asking for more pictures of me. NICK You gotta be careful before we're a real power couple. I'm serious. It's gonna be me playing the French Open, you gracing the cover of Vogue. And the whole world is gonna wanna be us. NICK Why don't we head back to my parents' place? They're not home till late. ALINA Um, I can't. I'm meeting a girl at one. NICK Does she have any guy friends or whats the deal? ALINA No, no! Oh my gosh, no. It's just the one girl. Don't worry. NICK Ok. ALINA Oh my god... thats Tracy, the girl I was gonna meet. Shes missing. DETECTIVE MITCHELL William Bradford. BRADFORD Yeah. DETECTIVE MITCHELL I'm Detective Mitchell. This is Detective Cole. Were with the LA County Sheriffs Department Can we come in? BRADFORD Yeah, of course. Come on in. DETECTIVE MITCHELL Thank you. We're investigating a missing teen. Tracy Campbell, your neighbor. BRADFORD Ah, right. Yeah. DETECTIVE MITCHELL Her mom said you gave her a lift to the mall on Saturday. BRADFORD Yeah, she knocked on my door. I let her in to use the phone, but it wasn't working. So she asked me to drop her off at the mall. DETECTIVE COLE What time was that? BRADFORD Hmm. Mid-afternoon. DETECTIVE COLE Phone's working now. BRADFORD Sure is. DETECTIVE COLE Which entrance did you drop her at? BRADFORD Yeah, the north side. DETECTIVE MITCHELL And you saw her go in. BRADFORD Yeah. And I headed out to the desert to mess around, take some photos. Grabbed some dinner, got my car washed, and came home. DETECTIVE MITCHELL Didn't ask you about that. BRADFORD Ok. DETECTIVE MITCHELL Did, uh...did Tracy say what she had planned to do at the mall? BRADFORD No, not really. DETECTIVE MITCHELL Can you give us a description of what she was wearing? BRADFORD Yeah. Yeah. She, um, she had on a black crop top, cut-off jean shorts over a red and blue striped bikini. DETECTIVE COLE How'd she know the color of her bikini? Since it was underneath her clothes? BRADFORD She was, uh...she was out front sunbathing before she came over. BRADFORD You guys want some coffee or something? DETECTIVE MITCHELL Oh, we're good, thanks. DETECTIVE MITCHELL Did you take all these? BRADFORD Yeah. I'm a freelance photographer. DETECTIVE MITCHELL Pretty good. BRADFORD Thanks. DETECTIVE MITCHELL Ever take pictures of Tracy? BRADFORD No. DETECTIVE MITCHELL Can we take a look at your car? BRADFORD Yeah, of course. BRADFORD Change the oil while you're at it? DETECTIVE COLE Sure keeps that car clean. Not a speck of dirt, not a hair to be found. DETECTIVE MITCHELL Said he took pride in it. Guess his pride doesn't extend it inside the house. Boxes and boxes of photos, all women. DETECTIVE COLE Most photographers I know are kind of artsy-fartsy. Bradford's a little more... DETECTIVE MITCHELL Rough around the edges? DETECTIVE COLE That's one way to put it. DETECTIVE MITCHELL Yeah. ALINA Thanks for the movie. It was a good distraction. NICK Yeah, for a comedy it was actually good. Are you sure you don't wanna go to this thing? Because Brian's brother got a beer ball and we can just hang out. ALINA No. Thanks anyways. My dad's gonna be here soon. NICK Yeah. I'll see you at school though. ALINA Yeah, I'll see you tomorrow. NICK Ok! ALINA ALINA Tracy? ALINA NANCY So this is the girl that you were gonna hang out with? ALINA I met her at the mall. She was sitting by herself, and she said that she was from Missoula and that she was really missing her friends. I just, like, really hope she's Ok. NANCY Honey, she very well may be. She hasn't been missing that long. Maybe she just ran away or took a bus back to Montana. CARL I don't know. Without telling anyone? NANCY Yeah, it's very possible. CARL I mean, a teen loitering alone at the mall. I mean, sheshed be an easy target. NANCY Carl, I'm trying to stay positive. CARL So we are supposed to pretend there aren't guys out there w ho don't prey? I mean literally prey on women, especially ones Alina's age. CARL I mean, every day there'sthere's a story in the paper or the news about some young girl who's just up and vanished and yet, the first thing out of everyone's mouths is she's probably fine. Well, she's not fine. She's missing. NANCY Oh, honey. Wait. Alina! Sweetheart! NANCY Carl! What is wrong with you? CARL I'm sorry. NANCY She's clearly already having nightmares, and I don't want her going through life terrified of every single person she encounters, never trusting anyone. Is that what you want for her? I can't tell anymore. CARL Listen. Listen, you don't know men the way I do. NANCY Oh, please. CARL You think most people are good, but theyre not. Maybe teaching Elena to be a little bit skeptical isn't such a bad thing. ALINA Come on. I need you to drive me to Wood Acre in Baldwin Hills. NICK Why? ALINA I saw on the news last night that theyre doing a search for Tracy today... NICK Ok cause I have a chem quiz. And the whole reason I'm taking summer school is because I flunked that class. ALINA Then loan me the keys to your car. NICK Yeah. You don't have a license. ALINA I had a dream last night where I found her body. Ok? I'm not sure what that means, but we need to do this. NICK Ok, Ok, Ok. Its at two. So we have to be back by then. ALINA Ok! I promise. Thank you! ALINA Nick? Nick! ALINA Shes in there! Shes in there! Help her! NICK Its nothing, Alina! Its just garbage. NICK Come here, come here. Its Ok. Its not her. NICK Youre Ok. Youre Ok. Its all right. CARL Hey! Whats wrong? Why...why are you home so early? ALINA Nick and I skipped class today. Please don't be mad. I wanted to help with the search for Tracy. He went back to class afterwards and I just... I just really didn't feel like it, I guess. ALINA They had cadaver dogs out there, Dad. They wouldn't bring those out unless they think she's dead. I know you think so too. CARL Listen, listen. Hey, honey, I have no idea what happened to her, but see, this is why I don't want you going out on your own without telling us. You know, bad things happen so fast. All it takes is letting your guard down for one second and CARL BRADFORD What the hell is this? DETECTIVE COLE Mr. Bradford! Perfect timing. Boys, the car's here now! BRADFORD No, you can't just go into my house! DETECTIVE MITCHELL Stop! DETECTIVE COLE We can. Thanks to this search warrant. BRADFORD For what? DETECTIVE COLE Anything relating to the disappearance of Tracy Campbell or the murder of Shari Miller. BRADFORD Shari who? Hey! No. No. No. No. That's mine. No! DETECTIVE MITCHELL Hey! Hands off! DETECTIVE MITCHELL Is this Shari Miller? BRADFORD I don't know her name. Shes a bartender who asked me to take some pictures of her. MITCHELL Where was it taken? BRADFORD Coldwater Canyon. MITCHELL When? BRADFORD End of June. Thirtieth maybe? I dont remember exactly. DETECTIVE COLE Where were you on the 4th of July? BRADFORD I was down in Huntington Beach watching the tall ships do the parade. DETECTIVE COLE Anybody see you that could vouch you were there? BRADFORD I mean, lot of people saw me. I don't know any of them. DETECTIVE MITCHELL A regular at the Meet Market said he saw Shari on the fourth and she told him she was meeting a photographer to take some photos. BRADFORD It must have been someone else. DETECTIVE COLE On the morning of the fourth, Shari's car was parked at the Meet Market. Two days later, it was found abandoned three blocks from your house. You care to explain? DETECTIVE MITCHELL This was found under the floorboards of your car. Who do all the keys belong to? BRADFORD Me. A lot of camera equipment, a lot of padlocks. DETECTIVE MITCHELL And the knife? BRADFORD Well, I'm not sure if you gentlemen are aware, but the city of Los Angeles can be a very dangerous place. DETECTIVE MITCHELL If it's for your protection, wouldnt you want to keep it in some place more accessible? BRADFORD Hm. Good tip. DETECTIVE COLE In your bedroom. Why so much jewelry? BRADFORD That stuffs from my ex-wife. I got it back in the divorce. DETECTIVE COLE The rings are all different sizes. There's no way they belong to just one person. DETECTIVE MITCHELL Did this one belong to your ex? BRADFORD I just said it did. DETECTIVE MITCHELL In one of the photos Ms. McCabe gave us, it shows Tracy wearing one exactly like it. BRADFORD Companies, they tend to make more than just one. Am I under arrest? DETECTIVE MITCHELL No. You're free to go. BRADFORD Well, this has been fun. Thank you for your service, gentlemen. BRADFORD Hey! RAJAT Hi. BRADFORD They ready yet? RAJAT Oh, yeah. Just give me a second. Ah. There we go. NATALIE How long did it take that John guy to vote you Best New Face? ALINA A couple days. Why? NATALIE I think I may have won last week's. There was a bunch of the photographers coming up to me after asking to do like private sessions and... ALINA Because the swimsuit. NATALIE Yeah. What? It's the same one that I wear to the beach. ALINA I get that. I just think if you want agencies to take you seriously, those kind of pictures might make them think you're not the girl next door. NATALIE And you are? ALINA Well, I don't know. I try to come across professional and stuff. NATALIE Of course, you do because you're just so perfect. ALINA Natalie, what is going on with you? NATALIE What? ALINA Your attitude has been so weird lately. NATALIE Get over yourself, Alina. And also, I'll get my own ride tomorrow, so don't worry about me. As if you actually do. MITCHELL 24-hour photomat. MITCHELL Same lab... RAJAT Of course, I know Bill. He's one of my best customers. DETECTIVE MITCHELL Do you remember developing these? RAJAT Honestly, there's too many to remember. He's always bringing in new rolls of pretty girls. DETECTIVE MITCHELL Hm. And whens the last time you developed film for him? RAJAT Two nights ago. It was odd. He rushed right in and tore the envelope and . . . chewed his negatives. DETECTIVE MITCHELL Chewed? RAJAT Yeah. Ruined the emulsion. Just can't be reprinted. DETECTIVE MITCHELL Do you know what was on the roll? RAJAT Um, just another pretty girl in a bikini. You know, dark blonde hair. DETECTIVE MITCHELL What color was the bikini? RAJAT It was white with, uh, red and blue stripes, I think. ALINA I don't feel like having my picture taken today. CARL Oh, we don't have to go. And your mom and I just thought that, you know, going to New Faces might help you take your mind off things. Does this have anything to do with Natalie getting her own ride? Look, its your call, sweetie, but we can just as easily turn around and go get dilly bars instead. ALINA Actually, I...I wanna go. I love modeling and I won't let anyone take that away from me. CARL Ok. FEMALE OVER PA Due to the popularity of this years New Faces event, weve opened a second check-in desk outside the main building. Returning models, please register there. BRADFORD Ok. ALINA I think Im gonna ask John. CARL Ok. Yeah. All right. Ill see ya later. ALINA Ok cool. ALINA Um hey, John. Sorry to interrupt. I was just wondering if Natalie checked in yet? JOHN Yeah, I think so. A while ago. ALINA Ok. JOHN Girls, come. I wanna talk some more about something. BRADFORD Alina! Hey. Uh, I have some more from last time. ALINA Oh. BRADFORD Yeah, its, uh... ALINA Uh, these are so good! BRADFORD I mean, it's easy when the subject is as beautiful as you are. BRADFORD Um, I spoke to the agency in New York, and they're interested. Yeah, I mean, they wanna see a few more body shots. But dont freak, Ok? Its a common thing. And they, uh, also asked for your phone number. They just wanna get a feel for your personality. ALINA Sure! BRADFORD Yeah. Um, what number should I give them? ALINA Uh, I can write it down. BRADFORD Yeah? ALINA Yeah. BRADFORD Perfect. So, since theyve already seen the park background, I was thinking that maybe we should give them something more interesting. ALINA Uh, like what? BRADFORD Well, there's this barn overjust over there with a really cool chiaroscuro lighting effect. ALINA A what? BRADFORD Deep shadows. Hey! You're gonna need to learn some photography terms if you want people to think you're not an amateur. ALINA I am an amateur. BRADFORD Not for long. BRADFORD Look, I'll meet you over there. Um, this time, wear something maybe a little sexier. ALINA Oh, here you go. BRADFORD No, no, no. Keep em. Got my number on the back. ALINA Thanks. BRADFORD Yeah. CARL Hey, Alina? CARL Alina, are you in there? BRADFORD Put your arm over your head. Yeah. Perfect. CARL Hey, John. John, havehave you seen Alina? JOHN Yeah. Last time I saw her, she was down by the barn with Bill. CARL Garden. BRADFORD Ok. Now, arch your back just a little. BRADFORD Can I just make a little adjustment? ALINA Uh, sure. BRADFORD Yeah. CARL Ah, thats great! BRADFORD Hey, man, what are you doing? Hey, buddy, this is my shoot. CARL Yeah. I know. Just a couple more. BRADFORD Hey. Are you deaf? I said beat it, you dick. This is... CARL This, this lighting is great. Look, look this way. BRADFORD You know what? Screw you. Screw you. ALINA Wait! No, no no! Please don't go! ALINA What are you doing? CARL I thought you knew better than to just take off with some guy! ALINA We were trying to get better lighting! God, you said you wouldn't embarrass me! CARL Alina! ALINA I trusted you! CARL And I trusted you, but you left the park without telling me. ALINA What was I supposed to say? Let me go ask my dad? CARL Nothing's lost. He doesn't know I'm your dad. ALINA He was mad when he left! NANCY I'mI'm sure that he can handle it. CARL You're 15, Alina. You're not an adult yet. NANCY Thompson residence. BRADFORD Can I speak to Alina, please? NANCY This is not a good time. BRADFORD I just... ALINA I knew you'd do this. It's the only thing I've ever wanted, so of course you have to sabotage it. CARL Yes. That's our whole purpose here. To sabotage our child's dreams. Alina! NANCY Carl, just let her go. She just needs to blow off steam. NICK God, you are so hot. I can't keep my hands off you. ALINA Nick? NICK Have we met? ALINA Take your stupid pin! You're such a liar! NICK I obviously never got her that. She's crazy. NATALIE Hello? ALINA Hey, Nat. NATALIE Hello? Alina? Whats wrong? ALINA I'm so sorry we fought. Can we talk? ALINA You were totally right about him. He's a complete jerk. NATALIE You can do so much better. ALINA Honestly, I have no interest in dating. All I care about is us going to Paris. That is, if my dad hasnt totally ruined my chances. You know that photographer, Bill? He was trying to set up shots. And then theres Carl Thompson standing right next to him just clicking off pictures. NATALIE I wish I couldve seen that! ALINA Me too! ALINA Thanks for making me feel so much better. NATALIE Yeah, of course. I read in the best friend handbook that thats my job. ALINA Oh, what time do we have to be at the mall tomorrow? Uh, for the trunk show? NATALIE Oh, the manager didnt call you? ALINA No. NATALIE It was, uh, cancelled. Something about, like, a designer not being ready or something. ALINA That sucks. NATALIE Yeah! Im sure theyll reschedule it though. I should go! ALINA Since theres no trunk show tomorrow, do you wanna hang out? Go to the beach or something? NATALIE Yeah, maybe. Oh! Um, I promised my neighbor that Im gonna be babysitting her son tomorrow. So I cant. ALINA Thats Ok. Maybe later this week? NATALIE Yeah! ALINA And Natalie. Thank for coming over today. Youre always there for me. ALINA Bye. MITCHELL Ms. Romano. I want to thank you for sharing your story and helping out the missing girls investigation. MITCHELL So you said Mr. Bradford became physical during the photo shot. But some campers intervened and he fled? DETECTIVE MITCHELL But would you happen to have any idea where in the desert he took you? MARIA Um, not exactly, but it wasn't too far off the Teutonia Peak trail. It was like a quarry within the desert. I'd never been there before, but he seemed to know the area well. DETECTIVE MITCHELL Hey, Cole! Take a look at this. See this rock formation? That screams desert, not canyon. I think he murdered her someplace in the Mojave. Think about it. He goes back to the place he took Maria, a place he knew he wouldn't be disturbed. DETECTIVE COLE And if that's where he killed Shari, that's where the physical evidence would be. DETECTIVE MITCHELL And then we have him. ALINA What...? ALINA Cancelled? BRADFORD Alina. Hi. ALINA Oh. Uh. Hi. BRADFORD Frankenstein. You must like being scared. ALINA It's for a class. BRADFORD Of course. BRADFORD Hey, II just want to apologize for the way I left the event like that. It had nothing to do with you. Ok? I was just really pissed at that photographer. It's the first rule of photography. You don't hijack someone else's shoot. ALINA That wasn't a photographer. That was my dad. He's obsessed that something bad is gonna happen to me, so I was pretty mad at him. BRADFORD Well, you shouldn't be. I mean, I've never met a good father who wasn't at least a little overprotective. ALINA Mine's a lot overprotective. BRADFORD You know, I still think we need to get some shots with a more interesting background. In fact, I know a place not too far from here, with the light...the magic hour is just perfect. I mean, every time I take a model there, the pictures get her booked. ALINA I don't know. My parents are not gonna let me go by myself. You saw the way my dad reacted to you. I mean... BRADFORD How about you invite your friend to come along? Natasha? ALINA Natalie? BRADFORD Natalie. ALINA And she's not really my friend anymore. BRADFORD What happened? ALINA We were supposed to model in this trunk show together and she lied to me so she could do it by herself. BRADFORD Ouch. ALINA Yeah. Literally just yesterday she comforted me after I caught my boyfriend cheating. So I never imagined in a million years that she would do that to me. We've been best friends since... BRADFORD Hey. Hey. It's gonna be all right. ALINA Yeah, it's just like everything bad is happening all at once and I...I dont know. BRADFORD You gotta cut ties with the people that are holding you back. Alina, if you stay the course, by this time next year, you're gonna be on the cover of at least ten different magazines. ALINA You really think so? BRADFORD I know so. I mean, you can have everything you want. We just gotta get some better shots. I mean, that's the only thing that's standing in your way. Not your dad. Not Natalia, or whatever her name is. ALINA Its Natalie. BRADFORD Natalie. Not your ex. This shoot could be life-changing for you, I swear. ALINA I want this so bad. BRADFORD Then let's do it. Okay? Tomorrow. Just you and me taking amazing pictures. They're gonna wow all the agencies. ALINA Ok! BRADFORD Ok! Uh. . . BRADFORD Ill meet you here at ten? ALINA I'll be here. BRADFORD Promise? ALINA Promise. BRADFORD Ok. DETECTIVE MITCHELL See over there? This looks like the place in Bradfords photo. DETECTIVE COLE This is it. Look! DETECTIVE MITCHELL That's it! MITCHELL Lets split up. DETECTIVE COLE Blood. DETECTIVE MITCHELL Hey, Cole! DETECTIVE MITCHELL I think we found Tracy! DETECTIVE COLE The shirt that's wrapped around her head. Shari Miller's. DETECTIVE COLE We have to wait for her dental records, but the clothing matches what you said Tracy had on the day she disappeared. JANE How did she, um...howd she die? DETECTIVE COLE Cause of death will be determined during the autopsy. JANE So you don'tyou dont know if she suffered? JANE He killed her, didn't he? Bill? JANE You know, II could tell the night I asked if he knew where she was that... He knew that she was...je knew that she was never coming back. DETECTIVE COLE We can't discuss any specifics with you yet, but we are very close to making an arrest. DETECTIVE MITCHELL William Bradford! Police! Open up! We have a warrant for your arrest. DETECTIVE COLE He's gone. He's not here. DETECTIVE MITCHELL Too late. NANCY Fifty across, across. Hold on. Um... ALINA Hey, um, I'm gonna go to the library to study and then to a movie with Nick. CARL Hey, hey, hey. Before you leave, I'd like to talk to you about what happened at the park. ALINA It's all good. I'm totally over that. NANCY Oh, really? Since when? ALINA Ill see you tonight for dinner. ALINA I tell you Nick and I break up and literally one day later you're trying to get with him. NATALIE No! Its not like that. ALINA Thats why you didnt want me at the trunk show. Cause he was coming to see you. NATALIE Not even close! I found Nick at the trunk show and he wanted me to talk to you for him. I told him to get lost. I wouldnt try and steal your boyfriend. ALINA But youd lie to me to say the trunk show was cancelled? NATALIE Yeah, I did lie. I'm sorry. ALINA Why? NATALIE You get A's without even trying. You win Best New Faces. If it's not Nick who's fawning all over you, it's everyone else. I just wanted to be as good as you. ALINA Nat! My god. You are. Youre smart, youre gorgeous. Youre an amazing designer. ALINA Look, I'm about to meet that photographer, Bill, from New Faces. Come with. We can get amazing headshots and get repped together. NATALIE No. That's all you. One day you're gonna go to Paris and you're gonna be on the cover of every fashion magazine. And I'm gonna design all of your clothes. We'll be happy for each other. Good luck with your photoshoot. ALINA Thanks, Nat. I love you. NATALIE I love you! NATALIE See ya later. Bye, Alina ALINA Bye! CARL Hey, Nancy! Nancy! NANCY Yeah? CARL Come here! NANCY What is it? CARL Look at this. CARL It's Alina. Pictures of Alina. NANCY Oh, my goodness. CARL Yeah, it's aits a cold case. DETECTIVE PETERS Mr. Thompson? CARL Yes? DETECTIVE PETERS Im Detective Peters. CARL Yes, please... please come in. Thanks for coming so quickly. Great, great. Right this way. DETECTIVE PETERS Hi. ALINA Hi, Detective. I'm Alina. DETECTIVE PETERS Nice to meet you. ALINA Where did you get all the pictures? DETECTIVE PETERS From a box in the evidence room. Belonged to Bradford, who you knew as Bill, and was seized during a search of his home. There were lots in there of you. But we're trying to find out who the other women were, so we, um, decided to reopen the case. ALINA Yeah, he always found me at those events. DETECTIVE PETERS Cold cases are tough to solve, but we're hoping that by releasing this poster, we might be able to figure out how many victims there were and who they are. DETECTIVE PETERS Your dad said you and Tracy were friends? ALINA I met her once, right before she was abducted. We were a little bit alike back then. At least I thought so. By the time he went to trial, it was four years later, and I was already in Milan working. They didn't cover the case over there, so I just heard from my parents that Tracy's killer had been convicted. And we never knew Bill's last name, so we didn't put it together. DETECTIVE PETERS How well did you know Bill? ALINA I knew him. Sort of. At least I thought I did. At the time he seemed trustworthy. When I went to meet him at the library, he never showed. Sat there for an hour, thinking maybe he was running late, and everyone had let me down. And I thought, well, there's no way this photographer's gonna flake. But he did. And eventually, I think a friend... yeah, a friend from school drove up in his new car, invited me to take a ride, so I did. DETECTIVE PETERS Bradford didn't show up because that was the morning he was arrested. DETECTIVE PETERS ...where Bradford took you to the that barn... your dad pretended to be a photographer. Your dad saved your life that day. ALINA Yeah, he did. Theres a lot I understand about my parents now that I didnt before. DETECTIVE PETERS Take a look at these. See if there's anybody you recognize. ALINA How many have you found? DETECTIVE PETERS All but thirteen. Most of them alive, so that's good. ALINA Most? DETECTIVE PETERS A few were able to connect to unsolved homicides. And, um, the rest? Well, hopefully, they're living happy, fulfilled lives, and they don't read the paper too much. ALINA I hope you find them all. DETECTIVE PETERS I'll keep at it till I do. DETECTIVE PETERS You need to respect the family's privacy. ALINA It's Ok. I can talk to them. DETECTIVE PETERS You sure? REPORTER Alina Thompson? ALINA Hi. REPORTER Can you tell us how you found out you were on this poster of potential victims of William Bradford? ALINA My father called and told me. REPORTER Did he ever try to take you out to the desert, like he did Shari Miller and Tracy Campbell? ALINA Luckily, never got the chance. REPORTER You're a professional model now. You've modeled in magazines and all over the world. What advice do you have for girls who wanna get in this line of work? How can they avoid predators like William Bradford? ALINA Anyone can try to make you believe theyre something they're not, but real photoshoots have wardrobe and hairstylists and makeup artists. If someone wants you to go by yourself with them, don't. No is a complete sentence and you never have to explain your reasons for saying no. REPORTER That's great advice. How did you learn that? ALINA My father.
