EDMOND HARRY LUCY LUCY Spring, Fall, Summer... Oh no, I got it wrong again. HARRY So tell me children, what have you decided to learn today? LUCY We're learning the seasons, but I can't remember in which order they go. It's too hard. EDMOND It's easy, there are four seasons: Winter, Summer, Spring... uh... LUCY Hah! Told you so? HARRY EDMOND Spring... Summer... Fall... and Winter, it's really not that complicated. HARRY If we study the life cycle of a tree, it might help you remember in which order they go. Right now, we're in Fall. And what is so special about Fall? EDMOND Our tree becomes full of chestnuts. Yum! I love Fall! LUCY Yeah, but Fall is also when all the trees lose their leaves. EDMOND True, but you can put them in a pile and throw them in the air! HARRY The leaves! Yes, that's what we need to look at! Because once all the leaves have fallen, that means it will soon be... EDMOND Wintertime! LUCY Brrrr!! I like Winter, but it's cold, and we have to wear gloves and a wool hat to go outside. EDMOND Yes but we can also have snowball fights! The forest is so beautiful when it's all white, and I love the sound of my footsteps in the snow! LUCY True, but it makes me sad when there are no more leaves on the trees. It looks like the forest is dead. HARRY The forest isn't dead, it's just asleep. The trees are resting which allows them to protect themselves from the cold. Some animals, like hedgehogs, bats or garden dormice hibernate, which means they sleep all winter. EDMOND Lucy would love to be able to do that! LUCY Ha ha! That's hysterical! EDMOND After Winter... comes Spring! Oooh, that's my favorite season of the year! In Spring, all of nature wakes up again! Everything turns green, birds start to sing again, creeks babble in the background, and animals appear all around us! There are bees and butterflies... I love Spring so much! HARRY Not only do the aminals wake up, but so do all the plants around us! The trees start by sprouting buds which then turn into their beautiful leaves. And as soon as the first flowers appear, everything in the forest gets busy and starts to prepare... LUCY for summer! LUCY Now that's what I call a great season! It's hot outside, you can go swimming in the river, the garden is full of mouth-watering ripe fruit... Aww, I wish it would last all year long. HARRY Well, you know, you really learn to appreciate things when to don't have them all the time. Since the seasons are in what we call a 'cycle', we know they will always come back each year. EDMOND Hey, that's true! In Spring, nature wakes up and gets busy, in Summer, we can go swimming, in Fall, we can play in the piles of leaves, and in Winter, we can have snowball fights! LUCY Okay, you're right, each season is full of surprises, and it is fun to have four different ones so we can always be surprised by something new. HARRY So, did this help you remember in which order the seasons are? LUCY It's Spring, Summer, Fall and then Winter. EDMOND It's Spring, Summer, Fall and then Winter. HARRY Hahaha! Very well done kids!
